A Melbourne pub is facing backlash from customers after demolishing its children’s playground and replacing it with an iPad station.
The Sandringham Hotel made the modern change during recent renovations on the pub’s dining area.
Pub manager Erson Carbajosa, told theHerald Sun, they had previously had complaints about the noise the playground produced and made the change in a bid to “get new customers”.
But it seems some of the regular customers aren’t too impressed with the updated children’s entertainment.
A few customers have left reviews sharing their disappointment at the swap.
“I am all about a renovation but unfortunately not a fan of this one, the kids play area (such a drawcard for young families) has been railroaded in favour of an iPad corner for the kids,” one person wrote. “Actually a horrifying idea if you think about it.”
This sentiment was echoed in other reviews.
“Only disappointment was the kids playground being replaced by 10 tablets/iPads on a long table — like come on guys this is the opposite (to) what we should be teaching our kids. Please consider adding a small play area for the younger kids.”
Another review read: “We went there as we thought there was a kids playground, unfortunately they’ve removed that now.”
An unnamed mum-of-two also told the Herald Sun that adding iPads was “disgusting” and she refused to let her children use them when dining there.
News.com.au has contacted the Sandringham Hotel for comment.
Not everyone seemed upset by the renovation, with multiple reviews praising the fresh new look.
“A great place to catch up with a group of friends for casual dining. The grillhouse has had a modern makeover with a technology corner for the kids,” one person wrote.
“Thank god they have renovated this place … it looks great,” another said.
One added: “After renovation Sandy is more attractive as a place to stop and have a drink or something to eat.”
