Happy New Year... For the first time!

Happy New Year... For the first time!
When I practise ‘first time’ in all areas of my life, the difference it makes is remarkable. I have been a voice-over artist for 40 years and only have 30 seconds to sell millions of dollars worth of products in each ad. Therefore, I read the words with great intentionality so that people understand the information.
Recently I read a line in an ad that said, “One night’s accommodation costs only $69”, and the writer remarked, “Gosh that’s a good deal!” He’d written these words but didn’t really get them until he heard the message for the ‘first time’.
In my work as a professional speaker, I was on 18 flights in eight days recently. However, when I see every flight as the first flight, this makes my travelling seamless. All my audiences occur as my first audience, because in reality they are! I invite my audiences to try ‘first time’ at work. Try answering a phone with the enthusiasm and pride you had on your first day on the job. Engage with your client as if it’s the first time. Sell your product as if it’s the first time you have shared about it! Years ago, I did hundreds of TV advertorials for Bamix. My friends would ask how I could be so enthusiastic all the time. Easy. I always imagined there was one person watching who had never heard about Bamix before. The sales were phenomenal!
Bringing ‘first time’ home can change your family and your relationship. Step over the mess and see your child’s face for the first time; cook dinner for the first time; and make love to your partner for the first time! (WARNING: if you are over 50 take it easy! We don’t want any readers to die from too much tricky stuff!)
Little children instinctively know the ‘first time’ secret. A mum told me her three-year-old wakes her up every morning with the words, “Mummy! The day is out there!” Another Mum said her intellectually disabled son would shout every morning, “Look... cows!” They lived on a dairy farm but his delight created magic in this 24/7 lifestyle.
I have the privilege of being a national patron of Make-A-Wish Australia. We grant wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions. Our families know ‘first day’ because they have to live with the possibility of ‘last day’. The gift is they know how precious each ‘well’ day/moment/smile and wish is. I am a volunteer and a ‘wish granter’ and my latest wish child is Sophie. She is three and just had a liver transplant! She is facing many ups and downs in her recovery, however, when she is well enough, she will delight in her wish to dance with SpongeBob SquarePants at Dreamworld to the song The Best Day Ever... and it will be!
Wishing you all many first times in 2012. Happy new year!
