Take Aim

Rob Dunbar from Acclaim Apprentices and Trainees has recently been appointed the new Australian Institute of Management (AIM) Chairman for the Sunshine Coast. We asked him about his new appointment.

What is the main goal of the AIM?

Mainly we are about educating business managers on maximising their management skills. What we at the institute give them is a tool kit of ideas to help them do that. We basically educate managers to be better managers.

One thing I have really found over the years is that we only get out of something what we put in. That’s one of the reasons I have got involved. The rewards actually far outweigh the time invested.

What do you plan to do as chairman to really make a difference?

The most important thing to me is to continue with the fantastic work that former chairman Geoff Butler has done.

The institute has come a long way in the last four or five years, so my goal is really to carry on with what he started. I would also like to really see our membership base increase.

The top three reasons someone would join the Sunshine Coast AIM are:

  1. The post-nominal letters. Using FAIM (Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management) after their name definitely gives the people added credentials.

  2. The education and resources. The educational tools to be gained about management are really second to none and our library is a 100 percent free, fantastic resource for members.

  3. Networking. People join so that they can network with like minded business people and find out that some of the issues they have in their day-to-day business are exactly the same issues that other managers are having.
