My Workshop Experience - Never Stop Learning

Never stop learning
by Vickie Magic

I recently attended some of the workshops held by the Sunshine Coast Enterprises – all aimed  at helping to make your business work smarter.

The first was called Go Figure, presented by Michelle Hamer.  The workshop was designed to assist small businesses with reading their financials, educating them on financial ratios to check the fitness of the business and developing cashflow statements for the business.  I have to say that for me personally, it made me realise I need to hire a bookkeeper.

The next workshop was a half-day session on helping to manage your team, called People Matters.  I felt this was particularly beneficial in giving tips and advice on communication with your team. Communication and setting expectations is imperative for everyone to know what is expected of them.  Knowing how people like to be treated can actually be as simple as asking them exactly that question.

“How do you like to be treated by a boss, what makes you give your maximum output, what are your goals, what is your passion?”  Getting to know your team is imperative to keeping them loyal to you.

The last workshop was a strategies workshop aimed at challenging you about the why - why are you doing what you are doing and what do you want from it? How much do you want to work, how many holidays a year do you want to take?  What strategic plan do you have  for the business – where do you want to go, when do you want to get there by? I personally found this fantastic and would recommend that anyone starting out in business or even thinking about starting out in business considers doing all of these workshops.
