Maroochydore Chamber of Commerce Update

There has been intense interest, attention and speculation about the planning of Maroochydore’s future town centre and the Chamber, as the voice of business in the area, has been keen to articulate our aspirations and vision for a vibrant and prosperous community to council.

Since council first heralded its blueprint for the area with the release of the Maroochydore Structure Plan and associated documents in April this year, there has been a very public debate about the plan’s content and practicability.

And while we now eagerly anticipate the review of and recommendations by both council and the State Government on this critical and controversial planning document, the real concern is that Maroochydore will continue to languish.

Despite the best intentions by levels of government over the past decade Maroochydore’s status as the region’s Principal Activity Centre has been largely under achieved.

Maroochydore has a rich heritage as a nucleus for economic and social activity and its glory days shouldn’t be simply relegated to the pages of local history.

There are challenges ahead in re-inventing Maroochydore for the 21st century but to realise the area’s potential is worth the focus, determination and commitment.

The Chamber has long championed the role and recognition of Maroochydore as the regional centre for business.
In 2010 our resolve to advocate for a town centre coordinating committee and strategy team remains more steadfast than ever and we will continue to lead dialogue and debate on this issue.
